Facilities Management
Today's demanding economic and commercial climate has created a scenario in which business premises are often in use 24 hours a day. This demand places maximum demands on IT and communication resources in terms of energy supply, security, climate control and includes building maintenance and cleaning facilities. Facilities management optimises these support processes, harnessing state-of-the-art management methods.
SSI has been part of the facilities management revolution since 1993, when we were contracted to provide maintenance management for two South African Defence Force installations and two computer rooms linked to remote terminal sites elsewhere in South Africa .
Today SSI provides a comprehensive range of facility management services, from strategic level through tactical, to operational level. Our methodology ensures a well-defined (and described) process/control philosophy and generates contract documents for buying products and services. Included in this methodology are well-defined service level agreements and measurement criteria .
Other advisory services include:
Compiling asset registers
Drawing and documentation control
Facility audits
Reporting
Benchmarking
Short, medium and long term maintenance budgets
Facility management at a strategic level on behalf of the parent company
SSI also assists with implementing computer-aided facilities management based on specially designed programming solutions including a survey of the information streams and mapping the client's information needs.
SSI also has the experience of DHV, their Dutch shareholder, on tap on a multitude of projects: Universities, Technikons, Government Housing Estates, Industrial Facilities (Philips), Roads and Bridges, etc
Our facilities management projects include:

Public Private Partnerships (PPPs) seek to leverage private sector capital, transfer risk and enhance service delivery. The key tests for a PPP are affordability, value for money and appropriate risk transfer to the private sector. SSI seeks to encourage partnerships of this nature as the South African government intensifies its drive for service delivery and economic growth in the country.
We are well positioned to partner and advise clients wishing to pursue PPPs, both in an advisory capacity and as a partner in project development. In this arena, SSI has a solid track record and reputation in a wide range of sectors, including transportation, water and sanitation and municipal services delivery.
SSI has also created a dedicated entity the Project Finance and Development Unit (PFDU) to co-ordinate and develop initiatives within the group, providing clients with a single point of contact.
SSI's extensive and specialised expertise provides a solid base for involvement in project finance and development, a focus strongly aligned with the strategy of our international partner, the DHV Group, one of the largest consulting engineering companies in Europe . Through this relationship with DHV, our clients enjoy access to a broad spectrum of international expertise and experience.
SSI has also established an extensive network of alliances and associations with leading organisations providing financial, legal and environmental advisory services in the PPP project environment.
