Young SSI

“Why should experience be something you get AFTER you need it?”

That’s what we believe at SSI and why we have formed Young SSI (Y-SSI) to address the training and development needs for all of our staff under the age of 35. Our motto is “Engineering Our Future Today,” and we are preparing ourselves to be tomorrow’s leaders…today. We believe that Y-SSI represents the greatest forum for young professionals throughout Southern Africa.

Bursaries

SSI offers bursaries and support at approved Universities in South Africa for Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Engineering degrees, in the following fields of study:

•  Civil (Transportation, Structural and Water Engineering)

•  Industrial (Mechanical and Electrical) Engineering

Bursaries cover registration and course fees and may also include reference books, electronic aids, transport and/or accommodation up to a maximum of R 25 000.00 per academic year. Bursary students will be expected to do experiential vacation work in one of the SSI's offices.

Learnerships

Learnerships are currently offered to SSI staff studying their National Diploma: Civil Engineering at approved learning institutions. In future, learnerships may be extended externally to students studying at various learning institutions. Applications must be set through to the Training Manager.

In-service training

Experiential training is offered to suitable candidates studying degrees and national diplomas in Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering at approved tertiary institutions. This training aims to address the critical components and outcomes as required in the unit standards of the qualification. Applications must be set through to the regional HR Manager/Officer.
